Reading Buddies Program

Reading is a source of endless discovery, fun, satisfaction, and personal growth. But in a world dominated by screens of all sizes and ever-busy schedules, it can be challenging for parents to instill a love of reading in their children. RPL’s Reading Buddies are ready to help your young child embrace the joy of reading and set off on their own lifelong literary journey. This program matches children in grades 1 to 3 with high-school student volunteers to enjoy fun picture books and literacy games. Library staff are on hand to offer support, expertise and supervision. Children meet with their buddies every week for eight weeks, building a love of reading and discovering the laughter, surprises, thrills and human

connection that stories provide for all of us. Parents and caregivers are welcome to enjoy a good book

on their own or browse RPL’s many other offerings while they wait. We do ask, though, that they stay in the library until the one-hour Reading Buddies session is completed. Register online today!

For grades 1-3. Share the joy of reading! This reading program matches children with ‘big buddies’,

Buddies meet once a week for 8 weeks and children should attend all sessions. Parents and caregivers are welcome to enjoy a good book on their own while they wait, but must stay in the library during the program.

Math Buddies Program

There may be few subjects in your child’s early academic career that get as bad a rap as mathematics. Students who initially struggle in math—whatever the reason—can quickly become discouraged and

frustrated, labelling themselves as “bad at math” and developing a negative bias toward the subject

that only further hinders their progress. But math CAN be fun, and RPL’s Math Buddies program is built to

help your young learner develop a healthier relationship with the magical world of numbers. This program matches children in grades 1-3 with high school student volunteers for an hour

each week over eight weeks. Your child and her/his math buddy will work together on math assignments (work sheets) and play numeracy games. Parents and caregivers are welcome to browse RPL’s many

offerings while they wait. We do ask, though, that they stay in the library until the Math Buddies session is completed. Our goal is to give your child a boost of confidence and a new outlook on math—and to establish a foundation for potential careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics!

Math Buddies R

For grades 1-3. Struggling math students can gain confidence in math with fun numeracy activities. This program pairs children with ‘big buddies’, high school student volunteers who will share their love of Math. Buddies meet once a week for 8 weeks and children should attend all sessions. Parents and

caregivers are welcome to enjoy a good book while they wait, but must stay in the library during the

program.
