Trains, Trains, and More Trains at the Saskatchewan Science Centre

The Saskatchewan Science Centre will be full of scale model trains and model train enthusiasts this weekend, November 2nd and 3rd, 2013. The Echo Valley Railroad Guild is holding its annual fall show at the Science Centre this year.

“Today’s model railroads are hi-tech. Modern scale railroads are digitally and computer controlled, but still feature the craftsmanship and attention to detail that they always have,” says Wayne Wessner, spokesperson for the guild. “Visitors this weekend will be able to see a wide variety of layouts from small to large and in several different scales.”

The show isn’t the only train-related activity taking place at the Science Centre this weekend.

“One of our IMAX documentary films is called Rocky Mountain Express. This film goes into the details of building the transcontinental railroad through the mountains of Alberta and BC and features some breathtaking footage of both the trains and the stunning landscapes,” explains Ryan Holota, Manager of Marketing and Communications for the Saskatchewan Science Centre. “We felt that partnering with the Echo Valley Railroad Guild would be a good fit for us this weekend, in part because we’re showing this amazing film right now, and also to show how the hobby has been transformed by modern technology.”

The show will contain many different layouts in sizes ranging from as small as 16 square feet to more than 700 square feet. The Science Centre will be open early on Saturday and Sunday (10am to 6pm both days) to allow people more flexibility to see the trains. In addition, Rocky Mountain Express will be playing in the Kramer IMAX Theatre on both days at 1:00pm and 3:30pm, with an additional screening on Saturday evening at 7:00pm.
