Heather Lindholm, Certified BodyTalk Practitioner
Hello all! I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Heather. I am a BodyTalk practitioner, wife, mother of two, Electrical Engineer, Elvis Presley and Lady Gaga fan. I am also passionate about helping parents and children achieve greater health and balance. Here’s a little more of my story.
When my husband and I decided it was time to start growing our family, we knew that having children was going to change our lives. I laugh now at just how little we actually knew. My children are now 3-1/2 and 5 1/2 years old, and my life looks almost nothing like it did six years ago. This is not surprising considering I'm not the same person I was six years ago, or even one year ago. My journey is one of change and discovery and now I help others on that same journey.
I have spent ten years working as an Electrical Engineer for a power utility. I am often surrounded by numbers, logic and manuals. When I was pregnant with my first child I did what every good Engineer does - I read up on the subject! I thought the more I learned beforehand, the better prepared I would be and the smoother parenting would go for me. All the parents reading this are now giggling because they know how reality went-it bodyslammed me! My son's birth was not a good experience and I had difficulty connecting afterwards. The lack of sleep and change of life hit my husband and I very hard. While physically I recovered, I just felt something was off. Since there didn't seem to be an actual physical problem I assumed it was due just to being tired. Still, the feeling lingered. Thankfully, one ordinary day I opened a free local magazine while waiting for an appointment and there was an article on a therapy called BodyTalk. I don't remember where I was or what the appointment was for, but that article changed the trajectory of my life.
The points in the article about mind-body balance intrigued me. I contacted a local practitioner and had my first session. I would not say it was 'love at first site'! While I found the session interesting, I also walked away thinking it was strange and crazy. I considered the fee paid as a contribution to a nifty experience (yup, I just used the word nifty). My logical engineering brain couldn't understand how what the practitioner did could potentially help me feel better. Funny thing about the logical engineering brain, it was speechless when, with no other changes in my life, I started to feel noticeable changes. I felt considerably more connected to both my son and my husband. My digestion improved and I had more energy. I didn't change my eating habits or start exercising more. I simply had a BodyTalk session. Being a scientifically minded person, I thought maybe it was a fluke so I scheduled another session. This was another turning point for me as this session was definitely more personal and eye opening. Again, I noticed improvements, mostly in my mental state of mind. I couldn't ignore the evidence in my own body. The BodyTalk sessions were working.
My family and I had experienced some serious changes from getting BodyTalk sessions and my logic obsessed mind couldn't stop thinking about what was behind the whole system. I decided to enroll in the Fundamentals course and learn more about it. I fully expected a class full of woman in long flowing dresses with incense and perhaps some chanting, you know all that hippy stuff that is associated with working with energy. Instead I was exposed to a whole new world of professional, smart and savvy men and women working in the field of energy medicine. My engineering brain devoured all the science and logic behind the BodyTalk system. My intuitive side finally felt at home with science that actually explained my life experiences.
I continued my studies and eventually took the exam to become a Certified BodyTalk practitioner. The new concepts and information I was learning were extremely exciting and I was driven to share it with others. As I have continued to grow my knowledge and skills, it became very clear that my true passion lay in working with parents and children. My understanding of myself, my children and my parenting issues has been enhanced and transformed through BodyTalk and energy medicine principles. I have taken special training with a Pediatrician on using BodyTalk with children and continue to work with Dr. Pete to enhance the lives of families.
Working with parents and children is both a great honour and a ton of fun. Every parents, child and family is unique, yet we are all connected in this sometimes overwhelming job of growing together. I continue to learn and apply the principles of energy medicine with my own family and the families I work with. Together we are creating a new paradigm of health for ourselves - health in body, in mind, in spirit, in connection with community. Starting today I am a regular blogger for KinderBuzz and I am excited to join you on this journey!
