Family Friendly Grey Cup 101 Events
Friday, November 15, 2013 - 4:07pm
There are going to be a lot of people in Regina November 24th to celebrate the CFL Grey Cup 101. We have been hearing a lot about the game itself, and the festivities leading up to it. Do you know that there are many events for families to join in the celebration?
See the Grey Cup in person at the Central Branch of the Regina Public Library on November 20th! Football fans of all ages are invited to visit the Grey Cup on the Library's 2nd Level Mezzanine 4 PM to 4:45 PM. Bring your camera! Submit your photo, a personal story or original artwork inspired by your experience to the RPL's Grey Cup Memory Zone contest for a chance to win a $300 gift certificate to the Rider Store!
The Regina Public Library is also hosting fun family events to celebrate the Grey Cup, the Riders, and football.

Regina Downtown will also be bustling with family fun football festivities. It starts on November 20th from noon to 2 PM in the Mosaic Festival Village on the City Square Plaza with the free kick-off celebration and opening ceremonies for the 101st Grey Cup Festival week. It is for all ages, and features sport, culture, dance, and fiery entertainment.
The fun continues in the Nissan Family Zone in Regina Downtown November 20 - 23. This free family friendly celebration will include the RCMP Heritage Centre with two retired Musical Ride horses Salute and Turbo on site as well as their friend, and barn mate, Tocala, a mare gifted the RCMP in a First Nations ceremony. People are welcomed to come and meet them, give them a pat, and take a picture as well as learn more about RCMP Rough Riders and the Musical Ride. They will also have a merchandise tent with all sorts of green RCMP clothing (in celebration of the home team) including lots of plush toys (dogs, horses, moose) for the kids. Inside the Nissan Family Tent, kids can dress up like a Mountie and get their picture taken. Each morning there will be a member in Red Serge to talk with visitors. And if that' s not enough, the RCMP Heritage Centre will be hosting a great prize draw to win every toy their gift shop carries, including RCMP Barbie! They will also be giving away 2 for 1 admission cards, temporary tattoos, and more!
Also in the Nissan Family Zone, visit the Saskatchewan Science Centre as they guide you through a series of throwing challenges, learn about friction when players run on the field by making a cleat and testing different materials.
As well, there will be FUNtazm, Regina Multicultural performances, Football Sask Flag Football, Regina Flying Disc Club (ultimate frisbee), ice carving, winter activities, inflatables, special appearances, live entertainment, cook-offs and much more! Enjoy a special performance by juggling act Duo Lumix.
Also free fun for the entire family will be the Telus Street Festival running November 20 - 23 in the Mosaic Festival Village, FW Hill Mall. There will be autograph sessions, interactive fun for CFL fans, games and live entertainment every night. Also in the Telus Street Festival, join in the chili tailgate with proceeds going to Kinsmen Telemiracle - $10 for five different chili samples and a pepsi product.
And who doesn't love pancakes? Especially when they're free! A FREE pancake breakfast will be hosted by the Calgary Grey Cup committee November 21 and 22 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the F.W. Hill Mall in the Nissan Family Fun Zone. And then there's MORE free pancakes on the 23rd, with Regina Downtown BID hosting a community breakfast in the Nissan Family tent at 10 AM while quantities last.
Come cheer at the Safeway Grey Cup Parade featuring a celebration of Canadian football and the Grey Cup itself! The Safeway Grey Cup Parade begins at the Legislative Building, follows the Green Mile and finishes at Regina Centre Crossing. The parade takes place Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
The CFL Sun Life Fan March takes place in Victoria Park, November 24th at 1:30 PM. Fans will be randomly selected to carry the cup to the 101st Grey Cup game.
Then join the festivities on the Practice Field at Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field from 2:30 PM - 5 PM for a free, all ages recreation of the Mosaic Festival Village.
And then there's the event itself, the 101st Grey Cup!
Let's show the rest of Canada how we do it here in Regina - with lots of spirit; and that we live in the place where fans are dedicated come heat or freezing windchill, the people are friendly (as long as you don't diss our team), and that our family friendly (Grey)cup overflows with fun festivities.
